Writing PLR articles can be an easy way to earn additional income as a freelance writer. Here is what every writer should know about them.

Freelance writers are constantly on the lookout for potential job opportunities, and PLR writing is a great way to fill up your downtime between larger projects. While writing PLR articles may not earn you the same income as article writing, there are a lot more jobs available in the field for those writers who are willing to do the work.

What are PLR Articles?

PLR articles are private label rights articles. This is a fancy term for content articles. Generally third parties look to purchase PLR articles from independent contractors (freelance writers) to post as content on their websites. There are also larger companies that purchase PLR articles and re-sell them to smaller entrepreneurs looking to build content for their startup websites and businesses. The authorship rights are retained by the purchaser(s) of the article and not the writer. An average PLR article is short, usually no more than 600 words in length.

How Can You Make Money Writing PLR Articles?

• If you can write content with enough accuracy and variety, you could sell PLRs in bulk. You can offer them in batches based on topic for a set rate. In this way, buyers come to you and purchase exactly what they need and the work is already done ahead of time. Freelancers sell their PLRs in batches that vary in size from as few as five to as many as several hundred.
• Having experience with keyword optimization and SEO usage can be to your benefit when it comes to PLR writing. The ability to properly use keywords in a proportion which will boost the article's popularity on search engines will increase your reputation as a credible PLR writer, thus enabling you to charge more for your articles.
• How many different ways can you write about one very specific topic? If you can spin your material multiple times, you can create several articles based on the same subject. As long as your content remains original, you can sell each individual article separately. This means you can write several articles on the same thing as long as they are not duplicated.

Benefits of Writing PLR Articles

• If you have extensive knowledge, experience or interest in a particular area, PLR writing should be something you consider doing. While the pay is on the minimal side of the income-scale, if you are able to churn out content articles quickly, it can be worth your while.
• Considering the fact that you have a degree of personal familiarity with a topic, there should be little or no research required, which makes the process easy in addition to being fast. PLR writing also lets you engage in topics that interest you.
• There are limitless opportunities for selling your PLR articles. Since every website needs fresh content to attract and maintain visitors, you are only limited by your interests and what you are willing to write about.

Downside of Writing PLR Articles

• PLR articles have a reputation for their high incidences of plagiarism. It is quite common for the company or individual who purchases PLR articles from an independent contractor to check for plagiarism via a program like Copyscape.
• Freelancers who chose to write PLR articles surrender all the rights of the articles to the buyer. This means that you do not get a byline or any other author recognition. You are also prohibited from using the article as a sample in your portfolio.
• Because PLR articles tend to be purchased in bulk, buyers are often looking to save as much money as possible, often settling with the cheapest offer. This is why PLR articles are sometimes considered to be of questionable quality or contain inaccurate content.
• Writing PLR articles will not make you rich. In fact on the freelance pay scale, they are generally the cheapest written service available.

While the pay may not be lucrative, if you are a fast and knowledgeable writer PLR articles may be a good way for you to supplement your income.

I think I got all kinds of information, I needed to know about the PLR articles. Every point has been written well including the good and bad aspects of the PLR writing. Now, I can decide if I should go on writing PLR articles or not.

This is a good overview although some of the negatives are inaccurate or not really negatives.

Yes, they are the cheapest per article price. However, when you take into account that articles are sold in bulk you can make much, much more per article than you can with other types of web writing content.

Also the statement that you cannot use the articles in your portfolio is false. I frequently point out my PLR content to buyers who want to see work. When they want original content, my PLR content is an easy way to see the quality of my writing.

Writer can also save a license for themselves and create their own niche website.

I found the article informative. But this is my first look at this PLR opportunity. The Comments posted are also interesting, for there is much to learn. Personally, I've wanted to write all my life, but mostly didn't. I am not as computer-literate as I once was due to a long absence from "normal" life, so I fear I have to learn so much.
Since I'm here, noting the last post was in May - is anybody out there??? - I wonder if someone can tell me what's the best way to get my foot in the door? And after reading all this, a "FORGET IT, you can't write" wouldn't surprise me. Thanks.

Very nice article on PLR sales!

I ghostwrote a very nice hypotherapy ebook a few years ago, and the client "disappeared" without completing payment or getting the final document. I'm sitting on good inventory, and I think you've helped me come a little closer to making "lemonade" of it.
