Writer's block can be tough on diligent writers and sometimes it's hard to find a way around it. These ideas will help those writers get rid of that writer's block.

Writing well is a difficult task as it is and it doesn’t help to have an uninspired muse. But there are ways to distract from the writer’s block, to find scope for the imagination and to find inspiration that encourages the writing. Consider some of these:

Take a Walk

Walking is beneficial exercise that is not hard to do. A walk is also refreshing and enjoyable and may be just what is needed to inspire a writer out of writer’s block. A walk allows a writer to take in different surroundings than the usual. A walk will also give a writer time to think. Sometimes thinking about the writing without staring at the computer screen or sitting in the same room every day helps to inspire more ideas. It may help to make walking part of the writing process.

Visit With a Friend

Having a friend over for a visit will help take your mind off the writer’s block and renew the energy spent on writing. Have a friend for lunch or breakfast, or maybe just tea and coffee. Go out and do an activity that you both enjoy. If you end up talking to that friend about the writing, they may have some good input.

Spend Time at a Park

Visiting a park is a great way to get out of the house and away from the writing. Have a seat on a park bench and take in the surroundings. Feel the sun, listen to the birds and the breeze, watch children play. People-watching is an excellent exercise for writers to find inspiration and build their creativity and a park is a great place for it. When the weather is too cold to sit in a park, consider visiting a community centre or a library instead. Wherever it is, people-watching will give scope for the imagination, especially for novel writing or short story writing.

Watch a Movie

Movies may not always help the imagination as much as a park or a walk; however, a movie will distract from writer’s block. Movies allow time to relax and not dwell on the writer’s block. And sometimes a movie may surprise a writer by actually inspiring ideas.

Read a Book or a Magazine

Reading is a excellent way to learn how to write better and it can be a great inspiration for the muse. If a book is too long a read, any number of magazine articles can be of interest to a struggling writer. And if you wonder where great writers got their inspiration, consider looking them up and you may find interesting biographies that may also help to inspire you.

Go Back to Writing

If new ideas are not coming easily, consider reading over what you’ve already written. Revising or editing is just as beneficial to the writing as adding new ideas would be. Inspiration may come from the editing itself.

Given time, writer’s block will pass. These ideas are simply to help struggling writers find enjoyable ways to gather inspiration and beat the writer’s block.
