How Writers Can Create Passive Income

Making Money With Old Articles

Using their old articles, freelance writers can create a steady stream of income through pay-per-click sites and blogs.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a flow of income that came every month, no matter what? Well that is exactly what creating passive income is all about.

Getting Started

Passive income isn’t exactly 100% passive. To build a steady passive income takes some work and patience in the beginning. It is like collecting royalties from a novel. After all of the work is done, the author keeps collecting profit, indefinitely.

To get started, a writer should consider all of the articles that they haven’t been able to sell or that can be resold. These are a gold mine when it comes to building passive income. The work is already done, why not keep getting money from these little gems instead of letting them linger in on a hard drive? There are a couple of ways to take advantage of these articles.

Pay-Per-Page-Click Sites

The easiest option for turning articles into passive income is to give them a home on Internet sites that pay every time the article is viewed. These sites make their money on ads that visitors can click on. The article’s job is to bring in the visitors. In return, the author gets a share in the revenue.

Here are some good sites to try:

  • Ehow.com
  • Today.com (They also pay you a set dollar amount for every post over 100 words/per day.)
  • Helium.com
  • Bukisa.com
  • Bright Hub (Also pays $10 per article up-front. Must be original content.)

Creating Your Own Blog

For writers that don’t like the idea of getting only a percentage of revenue from articles, authors may want to create their own ad revenue blog. It will take some time to set it up, but at least the author will get one hundred percent of the passive income that the articles create.

Blogger.com, for example, has a very simple, free blog setup where bloggers can use Adsense to make money from the blog. It is a very simple system and there is no learning curve. Writers can simply cut and paste articles into the template and hit publish.

Creating a blog works best for focused articles that are under 600 words and that have a common subject. This will help the writer get the most traffic, which equals more money. Here’s a tip, no matter which option a writer chooses, honing SEO (Search Engine Optimization) skills will bring bigger returns for each article.

To start out with, most writers won’t see much money from passive income right away. Overtime, though, the income will build with each passing month. After every 50 articles or so, a writer will see a jump in profit.

The Profit

So how much can writers make? Depending on the number of articles a writer has and where they posted them, many writers make anywhere from a couple dollars a month to a couple thousand dollars.

No matter how much a writer makes, passive income is a way to collect money no matter how many writing jobs they have. This is a great security net for many and should be a consideration for any writer looking for more income.
